Gary Mazin: Education, Entrepreneurship, and the Courtroom

A Career Built Step by Step

Gary Mazin’s professional path is rooted in perseverance, education, and hands-on courtroom experience. From arriving in Canada as a child to leading Mazin & Associates, PC, his career reflects steady growth rather than shortcuts.

Born in the Soviet Union, Mazin left with his family at the age of four. They came to Canada with limited resources and a need to adapt quickly.

“When you start from humble beginnings, you learn early that nothing is guaranteed,” Mazin has said. “You learn to value opportunity.”

That mindset would guide every stage of his career.

Education as a Strategic Choice

Education played a central role in Mazin’s development. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Toronto, where he built a foundation in critical thinking and analysis.

From there, he attended Osgoode Hall Law School. Law school exposed him to the realities of advocacy, argument, and legal responsibility.

“Law school teaches you how to think clearly when the stakes are high,” Mazin has said. “That skill stays with you.”

Mazin later completed an MBA at the Schulich School of Business at York University. This additional training gave him a broader view of leadership and operations.

“Understanding business helps you build a practice that lasts,” he has said. “It’s not just about knowing the law.”

Choosing Personal Injury Law

After completing his education, Mazin chose to focus on personal injury law. The decision was intentional. He wanted to work directly with people facing real hardship.

“Injury cases aren’t abstract,” Mazin has said. “They affect families, income, and quality of life.”

Personal injury law also placed him in court early and often. Over time, Mazin gained extensive courtroom experience, handling disputes that required preparation, clarity, and persistence.

“Court teaches you discipline,” he has noted. “You have to know your case inside and out.”

That experience shaped how he approaches legal strategy and client communication.

Building Mazin & Associates, PC

As his practice grew, Mazin took on the role of entrepreneur. He became the owner of Mazin & Associates, PC, building the firm with a focus on structure and accountability.

Running a law firm required more than legal skill. It required hiring, systems, and long-term planning.

“A firm is a business,” Mazin has said. “If it isn’t well run, clients feel it.”

He applied lessons from his MBA to firm operations, creating processes that supported both lawyers and clients. Clear communication, consistent follow-up, and preparation became standard.

Rather than positioning the firm around volume, Mazin focused on quality and reliability.

“My goal was to build something stable,” he has said. “Something clients could trust.”

Courtroom Experience as a Leadership Tool

Mazin’s courtroom background continues to influence his leadership. He believes experience arguing cases improves decision-making at every level.

“When you’ve stood in court, you understand consequences,” he has said. “That perspective helps you lead responsibly.”

He emphasizes preparation across the firm, encouraging teams to treat every case as if it could go to trial.

“Even when cases settle, preparation matters,” he has said. “It changes outcomes.”

This court-focused mindset reinforces discipline and professionalism throughout the practice.

Entrepreneurship With Perspective

Entrepreneurship brought new challenges. Growth required balance. Expansion could not come at the cost of service.

Gary Mazin views entrepreneurship as a long-term commitment rather than a quick win.

“You build a firm the same way you build a case,” he has said. “Step by step.”

That philosophy has helped Mazin & Associates, PC remain steady in a competitive legal environment.

Life Outside the Practice

Outside the office, Mazin values activities that encourage focus and balance. He enjoys chess, swimming, traveling, and spending time with family.

“Chess reminds you to think ahead,” he has said. “Life works the same way.”

Family remains a priority, even with the demands of legal practice.

“Success doesn’t mean much if you lose perspective,” he has said.

Giving Back Through Action

Philanthropy is also important to Mazin. He has supported healthcare initiatives, including sponsoring a room at a United Health Network hospital.

“Healthcare touches everyone,” he has said. “Supporting it is part of being responsible.”

This commitment reflects the values that guide his professional life.

A Career Defined by Education and Experience

Gary Mazin’s career reflects the intersection of education, entrepreneurship, and courtroom experience. From earning multiple degrees to leading Mazin & Associates, PC, each step built on the last.

“I focused on learning and doing the work,” he has said.

That steady approach continues to define his role as a legal professional and business owner, grounded in preparation, responsibility, and long-term thinking.
