Lauren Elizabeth Patterson

With more than 10 years of experience, Lauren Elizabeth Patterson is a seasoned advertising and digital marketing professional lending her expertise as co-founder and chief executive officer of That Random Agency, based in the Detroit metropolitan area. She was inspired to start her company by her mother, a successful entrepreneur, and is proud to be at the helm of a woman-owned business.

At That Random Agency, Ms. Patterson leverages her expertise in strategy and creation to ensure client satisfaction and lay a solid foundation for the future of her business. Bringing a decade of experience to her role, she led the company to grow by 400 percent in its first year, a notable achievement considering the challenges that accompanied the COVID-19 pandemic. She attributes her success to her unwavering dedication, her creativity and her knowledge of industry trends.

About Ms. Patterson

Ms. Patterson’s academic background laid the foundation for her professional success. In 2014, she received a bachelor’s degree in communications with a minor in entrepreneurship from John Carroll University. She complemented her formal education with several certifications that extended her expertise, including a content marketing certification from HubSpot Inc. She also completed training in Snapchat Advertising Essentials through Snap Inc. and Twitter Flight School through Twitter (now X).

Ms. Patterson began her entrepreneurial career as the owner of Elizabeth Rose Shoes, where she worked as an artist from 2012 to 2015. Meanwhile, her internships at Kiwi Creative, Moen Incorporated, Fox Searchlight Pictures and Rebecca Adele PR & Events provided her with valuable marketing and public relations insights that bolstered her expertise and laid the foundation for her future achievements and recognition in the industry.

Ms. Patterson further honed her skills in digital marketing and strategic communication as the director of content and social media at Platypus Labs from 2019 to 2020. She also found success as a social media strategist at Lambert from 2018 to 2019 and at Campbell Ewald from 2017 to 2018.

Success in Her Field

Ms. Patterson’s contributions have earned her various accolades, including a Webby Award in 2016 and the Best Integrated Campaign recognition from GTB in 2015. She has also been featured in notable publications like Adweek in 2016 and the Detroit Free Press, which commended her for her social media efforts during the Detroit Auto Show in 2019.

Ms. Patterson attributes her success to the positive relationships she has built throughout her career. One of her mottos is “Work hard and be kind,” which aligns with her belief that putting your best foot forward is key because you never know how you may impact another individual’s life. Her success has also been enhanced by her dedication to remaining current in her field, especially since social media has evolved beyond just appealing photos and entertaining videos, functioning as a search engine that is crucial for businesses and brands to understand and apply.

Outside of Working Hours

Outside her work at That Random Agency, Ms. Patterson has been a member of the Forbes Business Council since 2024 and is a Forbes contributor. She is also actively involved in various civic-minded organizations, including Forgotten Harvest and Arts & Scraps, where she volunteers and donates regularly.

Moving forward, Ms. Patterson aims to continue growing as an entrepreneur while leading That Random Agency, hoping to create more opportunities for her team and mentor younger individuals. Additionally, she plans to further her expertise by exploring advanced AI and new technologies that contribute to her field.
