Q: What was the motivation for writing your new book «Dear Friend – Daily Notes for Contemplation, Connection and Clarity»?
Michelle Maros: The seeds of inspiration for Dear Friend were planted within me during childhood. Before heading off to school, my mom would always take time to read an inspirational passage or poem, with the intention of starting the day on a positive note. I was always grateful for those moments, because as we know, life is unpredictable and chaotic.
Though we no longer read these messages together at the kitchen table every morning, life brought us back together in a similar capacity of sharing inspiration, motivation, and practical tools through our work with Peaceful Mind Peaceful Life. For over 12 years I have been privileged to watch the impact that small, meaningful messages can have on just about anyone. So it was my wish, to give anyone out there who needs to hear a loving note of inspiration, something they can look to each day, or whenever they need it most.
Q: Do you think your personal experiences helped you to be more effective in your work/your vision?
Michelle Maros: I absolutely think my lived experiences have impacted my perspective and ultimately how I share my approach to managing life and its daily stresses. I don’t believe there is a one-size-fits-all for life, but I do trust that each challenge or difficulty teaches us a new skill set or lesson. The challenges I’ve faced in my life have shown me what it means to have empathy, understanding, and an open mind, values that I deeply cherish today.
Through leading Peaceful Mind Peaceful Life for over a decade, I’ve witnessed firsthand the impact that small, intentional practices—rooted in mindfulness and inner peace—can have when they’re made accessible and real. These tools have transformed my own life, helping me navigate anxiety, self-doubt, and overwhelm. I know what it means to feel stuck or uncertain, and I also know the power of showing up for yourself daily in small ways.
The challenges I’ve faced have taught me the value of empathy, understanding, and keeping an open heart—values that are now at the core of everything I do, both personally and professionally. And it’s why I remain so passionate about sharing this work: because I believe everyone deserves access to practices that bring clarity, calm, and connection to their everyday lives.
Q: What do you hope people will gain from reading Dear Friend?
Michelle Maros: I hope people will find a loving voice of encouragement or inspiration if they need a morale boost, comfort when feeling sad or down, and optimism when life feels hard. It is my intention that this book serve as a steady, loving voice, and a reminder that they are never alone.
Q: How do you balance being an entrepreneur, an author, podcast host of Life Happens with Barb & Michelle and founder of Peaceful Mind Peaceful Life.
Michelle Maros: It’s not always easy to juggle the different aspects of my work, but because I truly love what I do, I am able to maintain perspective and know my limits. I believe in the act of setting healthy boundaries, and knowing ourselves so well that we know when to push forward and when to pull back. I know that I am my best self, in all aspects, when I have quiet alone time, and when I’m able to regroup and recharge. If my schedule feels a little too packed, I take it as a sign to carve out some me-time.
I’ve also learned how essential it is to surround myself with the right people. Having a supportive, values-aligned team and trusted collaborators gives me the foundation to focus on what matters most. None of us can do it all alone, and I’ve found that community and a shared vision are key to sustainable, meaningful growth.
Q: You are someone truly committed to building community. Why is that so important to you and your mission?
Michelle Maros: Now more than ever many of us feel the impacts of being hyperindependent and disconnected from our neighbors and communities. We know how it feels to be divided and closed off. I don’t believe that human beings were meant to be so separated from one another. I believe in the power of community and combined efforts to create change and promote a more peaceful, harmonious existence. Building caring, compassionate communities is how we start to see and feel change.
