Sir Patrick Bijou: A Life in Finance Built on Vision and Resolve

Sir Patrick Bijou

Sir Patrick Bijou’s career reads like a roadmap of modern global finance. But his story begins far from the boardrooms of London, New York, and Dubai. It starts in Georgetown, Guyana, where he was born before moving to Britain at the age of five. What followed is a long, steady journey shaped by discipline, service, and a belief that finance has the power to build, repair, and uplift.

In this spotlight feature, we look at his rise through the financial world — from early banking roles to becoming a respected authority in private placement programs and structured finance.

Early Foundations in Banking and Leadership

Sir Patrick’s path into finance began with education. He attended Camden College, earning a degree in Business Studies before completing an MBA in Economics and International Banking. His academic interest in monetary systems deepened as he researched how quantitative easing affects interest rates and the wider economy.

But education was only the first step. He then moved to New York for 14 years, where he secured his first role at Wells Fargo on Wall Street. He worked as a personal banker, then moved onto the trading floor.

“I learned early on that consistency and clarity matter,” he recalls. “If you can stay steady when markets shift, you can make better decisions.”

These experiences shaped his skill set in derivatives, debt markets, and bonds — areas where he would later make significant contributions.

Climbing Wall Street and the Global Banking Ladder

By the 1990s, his financial career was gaining momentum. At Wells Fargo, he managed medium- to high-net-worth clients and supervised a team of over 20 staff. His performance was recognized through multiple awards, including the “Valley of the Stars” and “Circle of Stars.”

He later expanded his career across major institutions: Deutsche Bank, Merrill Lynch, Credit Agricole CIB, Calyon, Lloyds Bank, and eventually BlackRock, where he served as a Director. Across these roles, he built expertise in structured finance, debt capital markets, equity derivatives, commodities, FX, and more.

One standout moment in his banking career came at Lloyds, where he helped establish the MTN & Private Placement Desk. His work increased self-led deals from 4% to 32%. “That was a period of intense learning,” he says. “It proved that small changes in structure and strategy can create large results.”

He also founded The Tiger Fund, building a solid track record in fund management.

A Global Leader in Private Placement and Structured Finance

Over more than 30 years, Sir Patrick built a reputation as one of the world’s leading authorities on Private Placement Programs (PPP). He has authored best-selling books on the topic and is widely known for his deep understanding of off-balance-sheet structures and capital solutions.

Many governments and financial institutions have turned to him for funding strategies, risk assessments, and financial engineering. His approach blends practicality with purpose.

“You must be pragmatic yet visionary,” he explains. “Markets move. Crises come. But there is always a way forward if you think creatively.”

This mindset has guided his work in designing solutions for clients navigating capital inadequacy or seeking alternative funding channels.

Building Companies With Global Reach

In recent years, Sir Patrick shifted from senior banking roles into founding and leading multiple companies. He launched Blackhorse International/Blackhorse Holding LLC in 2015 and continues to guide the company’s growth. In 2024, he founded Westpac Trading FZE and Blackhorse Tec Acquisition Ltd.

Across these ventures, his focus remains consistent: leadership, innovation, and building strong stakeholder relationships.

“Leadership is about holding steady in difficult periods,” he says. “You build trust by being reliable, not by making noise.”

His companies operate across the USA, Singapore, Dubai, the UAE, and the UK — reflecting the global nature of his work and network.

Humanitarian Work and a Philosophy of Impact

While finance provided the structure of his career, philanthropy provides its meaning. Sir Patrick has supported humanitarian projects across Africa and Asia, from irrigation systems in Sierra Leone to housing for children rescued from trafficking in India. He also contributes to Great Ormond Street Hospital in London.

“Success is not defined by wealth but by fulfilment through achievement and contribution,” he emphasizes. “Leaving the world better than I found it is my goal.”

He has been knighted for his service to banking and charity and holds positions in several international organizations, including IRAW A, the Royal Diplomatic Club, the Commonwealth Entrepreneurs Club, and the United Nations World Peace Association.

His experience negotiating peace efforts during African genocides also shaped his belief that economic stability and political stability are linked. “We must narrow the gap between poverty and ultra-wealth,” he says. “Capitalism can be used for social good if guided with intention.”

Writing, Legacy, and Looking Ahead

Writing became another platform for him to share his knowledge. His books, such as Private Placement Programs: The Holy Grail and Money in the New World Order, grew from a hobby into a global resource. “One never stops learning,” he says. “Sharing what I’ve learned is part of giving back.”

Looking ahead, he aims to continue helping clients achieve long-term goals while expanding his philanthropic work. This includes supporting schools, hospitals, film productions, and global peace initiatives.
